When we were moving into our new game development studio at the end of last year, there was a distinct chemical smell coming out of the plumbing. Our production manager, who had left Electron Arts to guide and nurture us, arrived one morning with a case of Great Value Root Beer and poured a can down every drain. He explained that the unique blend of non-organic ingredients quickly removes the smell of the PVC pipe adhesive. That should serve as a warning against trying to drink the stuff!
I’m reading 11-22-63 again and when the guy first goes thru the time portal to 1958 he gets a root beer and it’s the best he ever had. Apparently root beer was a lot better back then.
There are root beers, and there are root beers. Some are much better than others, and some aren’t worth the bottle they are sold in. IBC makes a good one that is best served cold in a frozen mug. Sadly, my blood sugar forbids me to enjoy that anymore.
We had a great root beer when we were visiting Washington state, it had a bee on the cap and was made with honey. It was amazing. I can’t remember which brand it was!! I’d be willing to bet it was a local brew. Also, if you’re ever driving through Bethel, CT (I know, it’s so very close to where you are!) go to the Sycamore diner. They make their own root beer, and they do not bottle it! It’s the best ever.
Back in the day, Uncle Bob made home-made root beer, capped with old-fashioned bottle closures. That night, the pressure inside blew the tops off. We had root beer all over the ceiling. Good times.

Was that the gourmet root beer? You probably would have liked it better if it didn’t have the name “root” on it and had just left the last name.

I’m not a big root beer fan, but I do like root beer floats.

If I’ve ever had a good root beer, I don’t remember it. I have had plenty of bad ones.
