Ironic. It’s like the unicorns keep trying to guess what every foal will grow up to be like when they name them, and consistently keep getting it wrong.
Of course, it could just be Buttercup’s way of rebelling, being the (presumably) only one in the immediate family with the happy cheery name.
This reminds me of the twin oracles in Jake Long: American Dragon, where the happy optimistic twin always foresees misfortune and the gloomy pessimistic twin always foresees pleasantries

Phoebe, have you forgotten the “grim” middle name of Marigold’s sister Florence UNFORTUNATE Nostrils?

well, there you go, about what I was saying last time. A whole family of opposite named unicorns. Don’t go near Commander Cuddles.

It’s obvious that Grim names work better for this family.

Does Buttercup have a terrible pain in all the diodes down its left hand side?

Interesting that Ferny used “sibling” as opposed to brother or sister. I would have had Buttercup pegged as female but I’ve been wrong before.

Many names are misleading; Peacekeeper missile, Christian Militia, and some are confusing, like the opposite of progress is congress…

Interesting that Buttercup is the name of the titular “Princess Bride,” and a famous quote from that movie starts with, “Life is pain.”
BTW, the full quote is “Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.”

Well, not all of them have grim sounding names… can’t say the same about the attitude, though. :P
