Always found that line disappointing. In the 1989 movie, the frightened criminal says, “What are you?” to which Michael Keaton replies, “I’m Batman.” Very bland. In an earlier draft of the script, the criminal says, “You don’t own the night,” to which Batman replies, “I am the night.” Much more powerful.

The response to the various attempts inspired the TV theme: Na na na na na na na na, batman!
