I love how literal some kids take things, sometimes. Of course those are the ones who find all of the loopholes or bug you all day by constantly asking why after every answer you give them.
An old friend who lives in NYC told me that he was once in a restaurant bathroom that had just such a sign. Under it, someone had written “If no employees are available, feel free to wash them yourself.”
Bathroom signage is always good for a gag. I remember one of the funniest cartoons ever. It was a big old ogre looking guy walking away from a destroyed paper towel dispenser with a sign, “PULL DOWN – TEAR UP.”

I’ve spent hours waiting for them, too. And when they do finally show up, all you get is attitude!

Employees must wash hands, before returning to work, to handle food. But the last guy to touch the door handle didn’t :)

He picked a fine time to obey a sign.

Very clever. Serves one of the basic concepts of cartooning; making you look at familiar things in a different way.

When at a checkout counter and the clerk asks if I found everything ok I say why are you hiding some things?? Always gets a reply & a smile!

Don’t let him near one of those “In case of fire break glass” alarms; just in case.
