If she doesn’t know where a cable goes, is it because because she’s stupid or because they no longer have the device it goes to? Some cables will go to more than one device, because some cables are standardized.
I somehow lost or misplaced the remote that goes to the TV in my computer room. But I don’t watch much TV while on the computer anyway. Also, I do have a universal remote which I could use. Then the missing one would probably show up.
What a tangled mess….I just threw out a handful of remotes from TVS I don’t have anymore. Maybe it’s was better to have to get up and change the channels? Yes? No?
If they’ve been in that closet for a few years, time to get rid of them all. I did that with the old TV/VCR manuals yesterday. The fact that they’re written instead of online clued me.
When I get a new device I do two things: 1. label it and 2. put any cords or cables I don’t need into my "extra cables’ box. When it gets full, take it to the big electronics store and put it all into their recycling bin.
I have 2 computer geek friends who collect all sorts of computer parts & old phones. If I need to get rid of something like that, I just pass it on to one of them. That way, if I ever find I still needed something, I know who has it & I can get it back!
I LOVE this comic!! I cut them out of the paper and send them to my mom. She lives in Florida. She laughs so hard. She shows them to her friends down there!!
When I’m sorting donations, I toss all of the “single type” remotes that aren’t together with their primary device. We resell the ones that can be adjusted to more than one device.

it makes sense to rid themselves of this stuff ( but not in a landfill) but old folks tend to hang onto useless stuff just in case

Also they could benefit others. In fact maybe they should have shown those to find out what they go to instead of mindlessly dumping them en mass.

Reprogram the remote’s chips to do something useful like buttering your sandwich.
