Wait a minute, I thought somebody at least implied that Mysta was Moon Maid’s real name the other day.

Something tells me that Honeymoon will be instrumental in saving Tracy’s hind end when the time comes.

Honeymoon has learned how to generate heat and cold and throw lightning bolts? Very cool! Here’s hoping she and Mysta get the opportunity to to use those skills in a future story. Hoping they’ll learn how to freeze people in their tracks in the meantime.

Great! If you can get the lightning bolt thing down quickly, you can come along with me when we look for the guy that shot me…

“Moon Maid” was created at a time when little was known about the Moon, so writers (including Chester Gould) could fill in the gaps with their imaginations. Now we know much more about Earth’s Moon and how planets form around stars, and the conditions necessary for life to form on worlds. The “Moon Maid” concept seems silly from today’s standpoint, so it might help if today’s writers filled in a backstory of where the Lunarians actually came from. You need an ocean for biochemicals to form and to constitute into living cells — there never was an ocean on the Moon. The Lunarians’ physiology is too different from our own and there is no terrestrial fossil record to show that they originated and evolved on Earth. I suggest that they are descendants of colonists from another star system who for whatever reason (microbial contamination, perhaps?) chose not to colonize Earth, but set up a life-support region on its moon instead. (In that case, there might be colonies of that race scattered among many star systems.)

I know there are people who’d say, “Who cares?”, but it strengthens the comic’s believability (and placates the science geeks).

Throwing lightning bolts? Great God of thunder! The ancient astronaut theorists were right. These aliens are certainly dangerous!!!

Well, these past two days sure brought the narrative momentum to a screeching halt.

We learn somewhat more about Honeymoon’s development, and probably likewise get a hint of what part she might play in the future in this story or even farther down the road. But it is true enough also that we are in the Slow Phase of Mike’s story development, which too often leads to a rushed ending and dangling loose ends….

For the record, I am content with Honeymoon’s and Mysta Chimera’s “Moon Content” but also like to see it remain judiciously limited. This should not be a science-fiction strip.
