I recall lying in the grass looking at clouds like Red but don’t recall ever falling asleep outside, with or without my dog. Always too busy looking for things to do and places to explore!
The sounds of leaves in the breeze; distant lawn mowers; birds about their business; a bike going by; kids yelling as they play ball in a field down the street; someone’s passing radio with the ballgame on; the smell of asphalt as our streets are being paved, new-mown lawns and weeds made hot and fragrant by the sun; grass gone to seed tickling your cheek; a prop plane droning overhead: The wonderful sensory input of a summer day as a child when you close your eyes and let it all pass over you.

a summer nap with a loved one on the ground always trump one suspended without.

Never managed to sleep outside all night. In tents, yes. Outside, no. Something always happened. Even at camp: “Tommy, wake up. It’s going to rain.”

Ahh, this is what summer days are for.

If I snoozed outdoors like that, I would wake up covered by ants. For night snoozing would be mosquitoes

I always found it too hot to sleep outside. So I read in shade.
