“Out, out, brief candle! Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”—Shakespere
Given that young adults today and their children are growing up in the era of “participation awards,” awards, as such, are pretty devalued. Like Syndrome said in the original “Incredibles” movie, “When everyone’s super, no one will be.”
The great thing about death is, at that stage you don’t give a rat’s ass what folks think of you. Which is why I decided to get a head start not caring ages ago.
“Our works in stone, in paint, in print, are spared, some of them, for a few decades or a millennium or two, but everything must finally fall in war, or wear away into the ultimate and universal ash – the triumphs, the frauds, the treasures and the fakes. A fact of life: we’re going to die. “Be of good heart,” cry the dead artists out of the living past. “Our songs will all be silenced, but what of it? Go on singing.” Maybe a man’s name doesn’t matter all that much.” – Orson Welles
Out here in the origin point of the Starbucks contagion, Dunkin Donuts put Winchel’s out of business, then all the Dunkins went away. (Krispy Kreame tried to nudge its nose under the tent.) It’s strange to be looking through a Google Street View and still find one in business.
The good you do gives a warm feeling – usually – like “peeing your pants in a dark suit”. Unrecognized. But it’s true the evil done lives long after them.
The good we do and the love we create are like a rock dropped in an infinite lake. The rock may be forgotten, but the the waves of our actions continue forever.
“What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his soul?” truly, there is more meaning to this life than earthly gains and treasures.
And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’
So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.

Before long, it will just be known as Dunko (for those who don’t know, the real-life counterpart is slowly dropping the “Donuts” from its name).

Being praised brings happiness. Beer and donuts brings obesity which brings its own problems.

The tumult and the shouting dies;
The Captains and the Kings depart:
Still stands the ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart.
