I know adverbs goodly. English makes a lot of sense–except for all the exceptions, which are confusingly many. Like adverbs that very often modify adjectives or other adverbs.
Very true that our language (being a composite of so many over the centuries) makes less sense than most others. I love the study of languages- especially English. That’s one reason I’m reading the “Riverside Chaucer”.

But at least English spelling bees are interesting! I can’t imagine they bother with them in phonetic languages like Spanish.
