Mom is smart enough to dress up Calvin and send him to bus stand on a holiday. But Calvin is not that dumb to fall for it! Something fishy out here.

Either she forgot it’s Labor Day or Calvin was forced to be awake before dawn. More likely the former.

Guys, you’re forgetting that this strip is a re-run from some 25 years ago. What makes y’all think that it ran on Labor Day in its original run just because it happens to be running on Labor Day this year?

Happened to me on a Sunday morning at 2 AM , and I did all by myself : my mother was sleeping .

The beginning of a school year can do that with most moms, but Calvin’s mom needs an early start to it for added peace and tranquility.

Holiday there usually is no school on Labor Day

Calvin, mom loves you dearly but she needs some..er…“alone time”, okay? ;-D

She has to get ready for the Mom’s Hooray, School Has Started Breakfast with all the other Mom’s in the neighborhood.

If it’s 7:30 a.m. and you’ve been waiting for 2 1/2 hours; that means she put you out at 5 in the morning and then when you factor the “get him ready for school” time, that means she was up at about 4…

I think the first day of school and watching the children ride off on the bus should be celebrated with a pitcher of martinis.

Ok, I know I’m totally missing the point of today’s strip, but I’m still trying to get around the idea of a stuffed tiger wearing a wrist watch and being able to tell time.

Well Calvin, consider this a trial run for when school starts for real on Tuesday.

Two and a half hours?! Hopefully Hobbes’s watch is wrong. Seriously, sending your child out to wait for the school bus for over two and a half hours is way too much!

I remember when we were on the bus route. We just stood out on the corner and waited. If the bus wasn’t going to come (snow, breakdown, driver illness, etc. ) there was nobody to tell us. We just sort of drifted home if it was an hour or so late.

Tigers and 6 year old boys aren’t the best at telling time.

This is a funny back-to-school arc. I always enjoyed reading it.

Calvin is definitely one of those kids who drive their parents to seriously consider those offers like “I’d be willing to do that, but It’ll cost you $much and your firstborn son.”
