People see patterns, even if they aren’t there (pareidolia). I’m convinced that’s our specialty… we (well, some of us) only wish it was “logic.”
Dogs, probably specialize in something a bit different. I’ve read somewhere that they probably don’t do “categories” which is how patterns are merged, but are very good indeed at perceiving what is actually there. So: No such thing for them as “a tree”, but instead a bunch of individual things that humans would put into the “tree” category… all mixed in with other individual things that humans would categorize as “furniture” or “bowls” or “throwing disc” :)
