Because, for them, it is easy and they don’t really understand how people who don’t know how to do things can’t just figure those things out. Experience here, I’m usually one of those people who can do things. I know it’s insensitive, sorry.
ever realized u’ve run the sewing machine for miles, and the thread had come out of the needle long long ago. yet another point where natural tailors say ‘told u so’.
Like the IT people who look at your computer and say, “Let me show you how to fix that.” They sit down and hit about 5,000 keys in 10 seconds, say, “All done.”, and then walk away.
Right. I’m incompetent with a sewing machine, but pretty good with a computer. We all have our strengths. We just need to find them and hire (or befriend) others for the rest.
Aboard ship when I was in the Navy, there was an air compressor that hated my guts. I brought it flowers, took it out to dinner on our anniversary – nothing worked.
I tried to take group sewing lessons once several years ago and it was a complete waste of time and money! I showed up every week like I was supposed to to make my skirt and the instructors spent all their time that night trying to get the ones who missed the week before caught up so that we could all then go forward together from that same point. And this happened every single week for as long as the class lasted!!! Needless to say, I walked away from there when it was over with an unfinished skirt and completely discouraged because I really wanted to learn how to make my own clothes. That was the first and last time I took sewing lessons. Now I have a beautiful little sewing machine that my husband bought me one year for Christmas many years ago and it sits around more unused than used, which is a real shame.
On the upside, I’m pretty proud of my cross stitching skills! The majority of my home’s walls are covered with my own hand-made artwork instead of store-bought pictures and I’ve given away tons of things I’ve made over the years to people for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, Christmas, graduation, new babies, etc. Clothes wear out or are given away when they go out of style, but something like THIS lasts a lifetime!

It’s always simple when you know how.

I told you that the sewing machine didn’t hate, Elly… ;-)
Elly just needs to take a class to learn how to properly use it…

It’s always related to tension.

But is the sewing machine bigger than a breadbox?

The problem begins when those who can do things get all smug and snooty, and belittle those who can’t. It’s a great way to maintain one’s superiority.
