I reuse all of those things.

I reuse the plastic grocery bags as trash can liners and to put my dog’s poop in. Please don’t outlaw them!

One of the grocery chains makes it quite clear they are reusing their bags. Bins are marked “Made with recycled bags”. We use the brown ones to line our trash cans, and some newspaper bags for dog dirt. I make all of our bread, and use the clear newspaper bags for bread.

But.. we forget all the folk who make a living designing; manufacturing; and shipping those plastic “things”

I reuse the grocery bags for a lot of things. I reuse the plastic/styrofoam cups I get soft drinks in, along with the straws until they break (btw, the straws last longer). It’s the same with the larger water bottles (the smaller ones I recycle). I’ve found the reused water bottles are lighter and are less likely to leak than the store bought ones. The places where I’m using plastic cutlery makes washing and reusing impractical. I never reuse plastic wrap, and have no idea how you can possibly do that!

I reuse everything on that list aside from cling wrap (I rarely use it anyways. I’ve had the same box of cling wrap for about 2 years now). As others have stated, the shopping bags can be used for trash/scooping litter/picking up dog waste, the cups, cutlery, bottles, and even straws can all be washed and used again.

I’ve re-used plasticware and straws.

Here in NY, they are about to outlaw the plastic grocery bags, which I reuse for everything from can liners to dog waste to temporary totes. The only ones coming out ahead by banning them are the petrochemical companies, since i now have to buy purpose-made, single use products to fill each of those roles. Nice move, NY! (And knowing how corrupt our government is, I’m sure those petro companies paid some hefty lobbyist fees to get that law rammed through.)

I’ve been using the same half-dozen single use water bottles for about ten years. Re-fill them with tapwater and store them in the fridge for cold drinks any time.
