Those stupid machines only have a small collection of the latest rubbish.
But the things that used to be around for years – Blockbuster video – aren’t around any more. This means that you can’t wander around the store browsing for old movies that you haven’t seen, or rediscovering old favourites that you had forgotten about. No reading the blurb on the back of the pack. And once you had got the DVD, you just popped it in and watched. (Several times with no problem.) No messing about online needed.
Maybe it’s because I have little kids, but that would have been a good moment for Janis to just bite her tongue and say, “Really? That’s wonderful, sweetie!” After all, you want to reward him for trying new things, even if they’re not new to other people. Besides, he’s so excited!
I think JJ missed several possible good arcs showing Arlo tackling the changes associated with retirement. He IS retired now obviously. One of the changes is that you have more time to notice things in your local environment!
For some – high speed internet is nice, desirable and maybe necessary.
For some – living out in the boonies is nice, desirable and maybe necessary.
You make your choices or you’re stuck with reality. Nobody says rural folks can’t have high speed internet but it’s not a human right – - – if you want it then YOU pay for it. Neither the internet providers nor the government OWES you high speed internet which is extremely expensive to provide to a sole customer far off the beaten path and I resent that my utility bills increase or my tax money goes to grants to subsidize someone’s desire to stream movies or possibly more important things!
Shame on the school systems that cover areas without reliable internet service BUT require their students to be connected to complete their assignments. Don’t they realize what the situation their “customer” base is in?

Why rent a DVD when you can stream?

Well, when you go to the store for just groceries and nothing else you kind of miss stuff. Look around a little. Your smart phone is watching.

The majority of people out there only stream when they are standing in front of the toilet.
