Patches, the foster kitty, is not doing well at all. He wasn’t much of an eater when he came here but I chalked it up to being new here with new food. So, I’ve tried 3 brands of adult food (the good stuff, not store brands) as well as kitten dry and wet food. Again, the good stuff. He’s lost weight – I can see it in his hindquarters. All he does is sleep. And now he’d throwing up but it’s only that clear, foamy stuff because there’s no food in him. He does drink water, though. He’s going to the vet this afternoon. Susan wants a full blood panel.
We have fostered over 150 cats and many are still with us. From my experience your friend is in a bit of trouble and I hope he makes it out. I think he is dehydrated and will need some fluids via IV, you can do this yourself, but takes a bit of practice. You give them what is called a “camel hump” of fluid and the body slowly absorbs it. He may need to have his food syringed into his mouth..just mix it with baby food and they seem to love it. I fear for a couple of diseases, but you know what those are as much as I do. We all fear them. Blood tests will tell..one may have to be sent to a lab. Smell his breath for tell tale signs of “ammonia” smell..keep him warm. Cats won’t eat if they body temp drops below 104..especially babies. Warm water in disposable water bottles works fine. Just cover them with something soft. The vet is an excellent idea..I know they are expensive. Sometimes we have no choice.Good luck
I think I’ve heard somewhere that the difference between cats and dogs is that dogs have owners and cats have servants. On another note, saw a Stellar’s Jay outside.
