I seem to remember some years back Arlo encouraged Janis to get the new stainless steel fridge she liked … because fridge magnets don’t stick to stainless (although he didn’t tell HER that).
We had to buy a new fridge – very hard to do and we hate the one we ended up with, but unless we went down to a 15 sq ft one, it was the only one that would work. I did not think to take photos of the arrangement of the magnets on the fridge when we took them off – big mistake. The fridge we received did not work right and it took over a week for a replacement – so our magnets with their important messages, etc. were not usable (and fridge food that did not actually need to be in fridge took up my kitchen counter, and almost the entire first floor of our house was in a state of disarray for the entire time, plus when we were making sure that the newest one worked – sort of.)
Luckily(?) husband did not sell any 18th century games during all of this as the instructions for me to make the drawstring bags for them were not on the fridge. Our keys were floating around the house as the key hooks were missing. The small pockets that hold each of our stuff to go out were also missing and the stuff was getting lost all over. No quick grab flash light – not on fridge. No calculator to use – ditto. Flashlight, pens, pencils and scratch paper – also missing. How much to buy to make vegetarian Brunswick stew for reenactments – also off the fridge.
The large erasable calendar that we used to have on the front of the fridge cannot go back according to husband as the surface of the front will scratch – and he is annoyed as it had his TV schedule on it.

Maybe one of the new refrigerators with the built in screen is the answer. Upload or scan and it’s there. Technology completes the circle of life.

Our fridge is still covered with pictures and artwork—just now it’s the grandkids’ instead of the kids’.

When you get to be my age, all the magnets are for nurses, doctors, clinics and insurance companies…

The new fridges aren’t magnetic. I miss being able to hand grandchildren’s art and photos. And i no longer buy souvenir magnets.

No such thing as a blank fridge if it’s magnetic. Ours is magnetic, all kinds of things held there. Pictures, drawings, acceptance letters, et cetera.

I defy this trend by printing out photos and comics for the fridge. Traditions must be upheld!
