I understand, Agnes. I, too, have faced who I am and what motivates me. Whenever anyone asks me if I’ve started an unpleasant task that I’ve been putting off, I honestly answer that it’s nowhere near crisis mode yet, so the motivation just isn’t there yet. When desperation and panic sets in, I’ll be ready to roll. Maybe not the most efficient way to deal, but it’s worked for me so far.
When I was in university and I had an essay due for an 8 Am class I would get up at 4 am to start typing into the computer. I would have done my research and have a general idea of what I wanted to write and I would have it completed and turned in by the start of class. I]d usually get between 78%-90% on my papers. One lecturer gave a lot of lead time so I actually wrote my paper a week before it was due. That one got a 72%. Procrastination pays off.
