I used to. Our county just banned plastic bags. It’s just hard to remember to bring in my shopping bags from the trunk of my car.

We use them for garbage bags.

Uh, oh. How did you stumble upon this little secret, Aunty?!

Yes. In the garage. And in the kitchen I have a tissue box filled with produce bags.

I use them all the time. Trash can liners, garbage bags, taking small things to the car, collecting eggs, storing items, picking vegetables in the garden, etc.

I take them (on the rare occasions I get one) to our used book shop at the library.

But I do save and reuse the veggie bags that Ziploc used to sell. Haven’t been able to buy any of those locally for years.

They do NOT go to waste. I use them for garbage mostly but clean ones are taken to the food bank. They need them

A couple of years ago, when the stores I shop at started offering “environmentally friendly” bags, I tried them once, even though they cost 50% more than the ordinary plastic bags. I found that you need two “environmentally friendly” bags to carry what only took one bag before, so they actually cost three times as much as the ordinary plastic bags, and they didn’t last as long. If you put anything with corners in it, such as a box (aka “carton”) of milk or fruit juice, they tore very easilly and could only be used once, while the plastic bags could be used many times. Realizing that we would eventually be forced to use the lower quality, single-use “environmentally friendly” bags, I started collecting plastic bags. I now have hundreds of them, which I use every time I go to the store, since all they have now is single-use bags that supposedly break down when discarded.

Why? Do you need some?

I have a few… some to recycle, some to donate to our food pantry, some to reuse…

I try to minimize my use of plastic. We do use them as trash can liners.

I have several cloth bags for each of the major chains in the trunk of my car plus a couple of “neutral” bags. If the product has a handle on it at all (milk jugs, bags of fruit) it doesn’t have to go in a bag. Also, if I am picking up one or two items, I just “pocket” them.

We use the plastic containers from the Chinese restaurant to store food. They are reusable, and when they finally bite the dust, they are recyclable. You can even microwave in them which makes them ideal for office lunches. About the only thing they don’t do well with is freezing. You need to leave some room for expansion.

Doesn’t everybody?

I have a clothe and a paper bag holding plastic bags.

How else am I supposed to colorize/categorize my fabric scraps?

We have two! Soon to be almost extinct – our city just passed a law to curtail plastic bags…which I whole-heartedly support!

Of course, Aunty! Some for garbage bags and the rest get donated to the charity thrift store.

To all of you who hate them so – do you really want to BUY bags specifically for garbage? Throwing away money on TRUE single use plastic bags – that’s a real con.

Packratjohn…you are so organized. I stuff mine in a sleeve made just for sacks. I also use them to line my waste baskets.

That reminds me of when Charlie Brown bought a wastebasket. It was wrapped in paper. CB was wondering what to do with the paper, then he reized he had a wastebasket. Then he said how handy it was to have a wastebasket.

One major supermarket in the UK has stopped offering plastic bags to pack vegetables but sells small drawstring bags made from artificial fibres!

Where do I start?? I have Zip-loc bags, plastic grocery bags, reusable grocery bags (green or brown), and probably some others I’m forgetting now …
