Back in the day, I was temping for a company the produced phone books. One day, the word went out that the company was being sued. Seems that a private detective had purchased an ad in the yellow pages. The ad was nice, artwork and all. One small problem. The company’s art department left one detail out of the ad. The phone number. All temps were sent on their way. Never did find out how the lawsuit turned out, but I’m guessing it wasn’t good as the company was soon gone.
I still occasionally look up businesses in the local phone book, but then, I still have a ‘land line’. I also still have an old rotary phone in my back room of souvenirs.
Two extinct publications I still miss; the Sears Roebuck catalog and the telephone directory. (Not to mention the extinct phrase, “Call me. I’m in the book.”)

Telephone books are really post-history.

In 2007 the phone books were still very useful but not for Satchel ;-)

The best reading was always in the front, where all the first aid and help pages were found before you reach the white pages.

Not familiar…..Sounds like a cross between Google Maps and Facebook.

A phone book? What’s that? (no need to reply…I’m being sarcastic)

They throw the new phone books under the RD mailbox at home in the weather in a plastic bag. In empty houses they sit there for months!

Lots of characters and good locations, but weak plots.
