I don’t know about everyone’s favorite color, but when you’re writing songs you want words that are easy to rhyme. “I never felt more like singing the oranges…” isn’t gonna cut it.
Blue is a happy color! I see more dark yellowish green with hints of brown to give it that blah moment…and THEN the gray to settle your mood into a spiral of dark and scary thoughtsthatcomeintoyourmindlikeatrain!….SOMEBODY SAVE ME!!!
I think colours become “favourite” when seen on objects with which they are often associated, e.g. green on a 1961 Triumph TR3A, red on a hand picked McIintosh or blue in the eyes of a lover.
Blue is a perennial favorite color for a reason. It actually makes you feel good, much more calm than, say, red and orange, which are perceived as threatening and uncomfortable. We learn in art classes that color theorists classify blue-based colors as “cool” and their complementary colors as “hot.”
But we don’t need color theorists to make it official. When Miles Davis, the coolest of the cool, had six other nearly-as-cool artists join him for an album he titled “Kind of Blue,” that was all we needed.
I looked up the specific color I really like, PANTONE 19-3928 TPX Blue-Indigo. Just that it doesn’t represent depression at all for me. I am not depressed and the rare times that I am depressed in any way no color comes to mind just a kind of dark edge to things. I work best that way.
Please remember that it is Caulfield that is claiming blue is everybody’s favorite. Not Frazz. On this kind of question, he (Caulfield) may just be stating his own preference. If you ask lots of kids what their favorite color is, you will get a lot of different answers. (Probably true for adults, too, but INSUFFICIENT DATA.)

When I’m depressed, gray comes to mind, not blue.

I’m much fonder of green than blue. And no, it’s not even slightly about the color of money.

I swap the blues for the blahs. Much happier choice, depression-wise.

Blue was the color of the sky and the ocean. Depressions come in various shades of black and the light at the end of the tunnel is the shinkansen.

Did he forget the music style, the Blues. No wonder depression is called being blue. Blues music is very sad and lonely sounding.

Not blue. Darkening shades of grey, maybe ….

Unless you’ve had a transplant, or are an expecting mother, everyone is ‘full of themselves’. What else would be in there?

“I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues” by BERNIE TAUPIN, DAVEY JOHNSTONE and ELTON JOHN. You’d think Frazz would know that.

But my favorite color is red. It has passion. Blue seems to fade into the background.
We have the bluebird of happiness but I always felt the blues were more of a grayish blue like the ocean before a storm.
