Back in the 1950’s a guy was offered a one year course that would equal 4 years of Mandarin Chinese. He thought about it for a while, then asked himself, Who would I talk to? But had he completed the course, he could have spent decades advising US pols on Chinese policy. One never knows where a degree will lead.
I’ve been taking Uber for 3 years and I usually have a very pleasant conversation with the driver. And I’ve never had an issue with any of them either. I am very surprised when you hear news stories about people that do. I guess it’s different everywhere.

And good luck using it on the job. Uber drivers are not allowed to talk to customers!!
