Lee Salem was one of those people you didn’t know about who took chances and made life more interesting and often nicer for many, many people. We need more Lee Salem’s, a lot more. Godspeed.
Some of the strips that Mr. Salem encouraged, helped get started, or nurtured are/were the strips I greatly enjoyed – Cathy, Calvin and Hobbes, For Better or Worse among others. Reading the articles about him , to me he sounded like an admirable person. Condolences to his family and friends.
Living in Kansas City, I met Lee Salem on a few occasions—his son Matt played Winthrop in my college’s production of “The Music Man”, and I played Charlie Cowell the anvil salesman. And I helped to babysit the little kids when the little kids weren’t helping to babysit the big kids. (Mr. Salem’s wife taught at the college.) He was already at Universal but not the legend he later became.

Hmm. Didn’t Stantis do his tribute last Monday?
Does that mean Non Sequitur is delayed three weeks? (Stantis two?)

I always wondered what was in that Great Book in front of St. Peter….His comic doodles! So THAT’S how he passes the eons of time just standing there.

I think Lee was sort of expecting a review of his life, not this.

RIPeace might not be entirely appropriate… but I wish him a good afterlife if there is such a thing.

RIP notes are never wasted, no matter the gap. To honor one is a gift of respect.

Apparently many people in the comic-book industry felt the same way about that other Lee.
I think the lesson here is to mention your admiration and appreciation while they’re still alive.

The question is – can you turn down a comic strip if GOD proposes it? I mean, it couldn’t possibly be bad, could it? Well?
