I can still sing that jingle from the commercial: "Meet the Swinger, Polaroid Swinger. Meet the Swinger, Polaroid Swinger. It’s more than a camera; it’s almost alive. It’s only $19 dollars and 95! Swing it up. It says “yes”. Take the shot. Count it down. Zip it off!" —-and I was just a kid when that Madison Avenue jingle caught my ear.
Having trouble remembering what a swinger looks like? White polyester suit, gaudy satin shirt (unbuttoned), BIG old gold chains around the neck, chunky heel platform shoes (white), and a devil-may-care attitude. Boom box optional.
Mine was a Polaroid too and I loved it. It was my birthday/Christmas present cause with the camera, bag and flash back then it was expensive. But I loved it….took a ton of pics as a kid.
My first camera was a Kodak 110 Instamatic when I was in 7th grade. But I also got a Polaroid Swinger not long after. Then when I got to high school, my dad bought me a Vivitar 220 with a bunch of lenses.
LOL! At a family get together a couple of years ago we had some of our kids old toys out for the grandkids. Someone asked if that company was still in business—looked underneath, saw “Gay toys” while wife was pulling out her phone to search. She almost hit enter before we stopped her. That would have triggered some different ads then she had been getting. The company is still in business, but changed names to Happy Toys or something like that about 10 years ago.

Seems all you can do, is crowd them out with something else.

For those who find the alternate coloring of the original strips fascinating, this is the one for today:

The red shirt etc of the other coloring looks more like the “right” coloring for this.

Janis, You will be glued to the screen, BUT DON’T HIT THE BUTTON. You will see THINGS. Kinda like Eve and the apple.

Remember there’s more than one meaning to “swinger”. What kind of ad is janice looking at?

I’m getting old. My first thought was the Dodge Dart.

“Incognito” helps avoid unwanted ads.
