Not wanting to be morbid – but, other than trying to feed ourselves for as long as we are alive, the only other thing that we can hope for is to help a few others to feed themselves too.
I once dreamed of owning a house on an island, perched on the side of a mountain, beside a river, and in sight of the ocean. Then, a drought, followed by a flood and a landslide kind of tied a knot in that idea.
Under the proposed rules to allow college players to be paid and to collect endorsements, could be very few college teams will resemble the great teams of the past. Once and done has already generated talk of just recruiting right out of high school and skipping the maturing time wasted on campuses. And for some of us older types, it also has reduced interest in learning the names of players or following their college careers. Can’t get too fired up over showboats who skate the system and disappear 9 months later.
If all the icebergs in the oceans melted, the water level wouldn’t rise at all. Most things contract as they cool and expand as they warm BUT water expands from 0 Celsius to -4 Celsius and then contracts as it continues cooling. This is why ice floats.
So as the icebergs melt, they contract at that last bit of warming. Try this experiment, Put 4-5 ice cubes in a glass and then fill the glass with water to the very top. The glass will not overflow.
I overheard a coworker discussing college for his son. He wanted him to avoid a certain school because the football team sucked. His son would be getting an engineering degree and didn’t play football. He wasn’t happy when I pointed out how stupid his selection criteria was.
If you think of life as a journey, then the goal is to enjoy the changing scenery and be good to the people you meet. It’s perfectly okay to plan your itinerary as well as you can, visit (and revisit) favorite places etc. What’s not a good idea: Fix your mind on a particular goal and not allow for weather, washed out roads, chance meetings or a change of heart.
I prefer to think of life as a dance (I like dancing): I dance with who brung me, but I dance also with anybody who’s there. Each dance gets my full attention, and I try to give my partner a good dance (a great dance if my energy is high enough), I alway give the musicians my applause (and some money)… and that’s how I actually dance, but it is also a metaphor for how I try to live.
Carpe diem, live for the moment, no time like the present. That’s how I roll. Or at least what I default to. What I strive for is more along the lines of Be here now, but don’t get stuck there. I’m the kind of guy who cranks out the kind of small-L literature that can be started, finished and processed in something close to an instant, for crying out loud. But who also aims to have another one ready the next day for … well, going on decades now.
It’s a good way to be. But I have my dark days, too, and on those days, when I see someone planning for the future, I don’t find myself thinking “boy, that’s responsible” so much as, “boy, that’s brave.”

I wanted to do something I loved, but then I discovered that I loved financial stability more.

In the end, nothing really matters… You die.

Just go into the television industry. Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public..

That’s probably just me, but I am good with it.

The coast will never be (permanently) underwater. There might be new coast, though.

Someone needs to tell Gore and Obama about the rising ocean levels. They both just bought mega$$ oceanfront properties.

Television is already being phased out. The hot thing today is streaming to people’s devices.

If you’re choosing a college based on its basketball (or any sport) team, start applying for waitress gigs; you’re not smart enough for college.

Lately, I’ve been thinking that adaptability is the greatest skill to have.
I’m starting to envy microbes.
