For better or worse, this isn’t entirely accurate. It’s usually more like “FLESH-EATING PLAGUE OUTBREAK: INFECTION RATES UP 300% – WATCH AT 8 TO PROTECT YOUR FAMILY”. Of course, when you watch the report, you find out that the number of infected people worldwide has gone from one to three.
We just have to keep the ratings up, like all the networks and their coverage of Trump’s impeachment. Every detail is shocking, government ruining and the U.S. is doomed.
I think George Carlin nailed it when he did a news report: “Scientists have discovered a disease which has no symptoms. It is impossible to detect, and there is no known cure. Fortunately, it is confined to New Jersey.”
I grow weary of the careless and inaccurate use of the term, “the media.” The media is every means of communicating information. Newspapers, internet, TV, radio… And it’s hardly homogenous. Reality shows are not the same as serious journalism, yet we tend to lump them into the same ball. I do weep over the corporate control of journalism in America, which hit especially hard with the advent of cable TV, but there are still good, serious news outlets. And they are not so superficial as this.
Yep, “the big picture” being boiled down to ’Dancing with the Stars" with its essential numbing of any remaining intelligent thought to be found in America. Sean Spicer being the cherry atop the mendacious sundae of tripe fed non-stop. Then, The Apprentice belched out Trump rendering away any remaining human decency. Verily, verily I say unto you we are in deep doo-doo.
What I find fascinating is some so-called celebrity, I’ve never heard of, gets pregnant and they make it sound like this is the first time in history this has ever happened!!! No other woman in history was ever pregnant till this event.
It sucks being “human collateral.” I have always wondered whatever happened to the scientists/personnel who sat on the bleachers at Los Alamos to watch the first “experimental” A-bomb drop. Googled it yesterday; couldn’t find any information on those guys (and why not?) but found a 2017 article about all the people in the surrounding area that were neither warned about the bomb nor evacuated, nor ever acknowledged. Very high rates of cancer, and they and their descendants are seeking redress. Also found out that our government did an in-depth study of the Japanese in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which is still ongoing. Was the staff too unimportant to care about? Any suggestions for finding out? Should I google each participant?
This isn’t an entirely new phenomenon. I recall about 30 years back seeing what purported to be 2 newspaper front pages. The one “from the New York Times” was full of sober headlines like “Giant meteor strikes southern California”, “Tens of thousands killed”, “Emergency response systems overloaded”, “Billions of dollars in property damage”, “Tsunami ravages northern Mexico”, etc. The one “from the New York Post” filled the entire front page with the boldfaced info “MICHAEL JACKSON DEAD!!!”

The one major disease that seems to involve lots of celebs is inconstancy. From marriage to the jakes, they can’t seem to get it right.

True, that. I suppose the number of common folk afflicted isn’t as important as the number of common folk who know the afflicted.

It was considered at the time to be satire.
