Vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry is good enough? Bah! There’s a company that makes black raspberry with chocolate chunks about the size of kidney bean (and from good dark chocolate as well). They also make real vanilla with actual vanilla beans. Makes Häagen-Dazs look like the stuff you used to get in a little cup with your school cafeteria lunch. And then there’s the real deal frozen custard we can get around here… Oooo, baby!
I remember when Yuengling ice cream was around. Their peanut butter was fantastic! Huge gobs of PB swirled in it. Yuengling went into the dairy business during prohibition. (FYI- No, I do not drink their or anyone else’s beer.)
These days I’m pretty much limited to Breyer’s Carb Smart. It’s sweetened with Splenda & is the only “diabetic-friendly” ice cream that tastes like the real thing (& has the proper “mouthfeel”). It’s hard to find though…some stores carry the bars & others only carry cartons of vanilla. Sigh.
“Bittersweet nugget” has to be what chocolate chip wants to be when it grows up, with chunks of good European 70%+ cocoa chocolate. Make a version with Splenda instead of sugar & sign me up!
Hadn’t been to a Baskin-Robbins in a long time and stopped last week. A rotating special was there and I had to get a scoop! Baseball nut: Vanilla with a raspberry swirl and lots of cashews. Yummy!
I remember when BRs had a bittersweet chocolate ice cream that was good. I don’t like chips in my ice cream.
Oddly enough, Stewarts doesn’t have Strawberry by the half-gallon. If you want Strawberry, you go to the counter for a hand-packed pint—frozen so hard that if you want it right away, you need a rock-hammer to put a dent in it.

I didn’t know that Starbucks (known for taking something simple and spinning it into something very complicated) was in the ice cream business. ;/

Scoop was 30 cents and people complained back then. Now a single scoop is over $3

My mom’s was butter-pecan. Never liked it until I got older. Still not one of my top 3.
