My ex-GF and I found a way to defeat the squirrels at her parent’s place in northern Michigan. We suspended the bird feeder from a cable between two trees. The feeder could be winched up and down for refilling using an old boat trailer winch. We had to use the winch to keep the feeder high enough out of reach of the bears in the area. The cable on each side of the feeder had been threaded through 1/2" PVC tubing. The squirrels couldn’t get footing on the tube, so they’d fall off when trying to run across it.
