Considering how expensive candy bars have become, Woodstock’s joke may not be that far from reality.

For $40 he probably could have taken a bus or a train instead of walking.

According to the BLS inflation calculator, $40 in November 1972 is about $243 today. Then and now it would be a lot of candy.

♫ If I had forty dollars we wouldn’t have to eat Kraft dinner

(But we would eat Kraft dinner)

(Of course we would, we’d just eat more)

(And buy really expensive ketchups with it)

(That’s right, all the fanciest dijon ketchups, hmm)

If I had forty dollars, (if I had forty dollars)

    I’d be rich ♫

A candy bar worth that much would have to be really big and tasty.
