Those were the days when only the caller paid for the calls. I remember being extremely annoyed when cell phones were newish and we had to pay out of our minutes even for calls received, whether we wanted the call or not. Plus one phone line for the family was the norm, now just about everyone in a household has at least one phone line of their own. Let’s not go back and think about dial up internet. That just causes shudders, at the best.
Wait, it gets worse when cell phones arrive & teen age girls use up the family minutes, designed to be used over the month, it’s gone over the first weekend of the month
My father greatly limited the time my older brother could spend on the phone with the female chasing him. So poor old Raymond spent time in her physical presence. This was not good for him.

biggest change for me was when even the landline companies started offering unlimited calling within the US.

“Say goodbye to your friend, Luanne.” (push cutoff button) “And by the way, you’ve used up your fifteen minute allotment for the next three days.”
