We used to love it (in the days of yore and flexible flyers) when the steep hill was coated in ice. Best rides as snow slowed you down. The more compact and icy the better.
We would get tractor inner tubes, load up on 100 proof schnapps, and fling ourselves down Ruby Hill.We made a ramp in the middle. Some got serious air. Before funny videos ;)
I didn’t have a saucer sled. My parents gave me a sled with runners one Christmas, so I tried to use that. But I found it was much easier to zoom down the steepest hill in the subdivision on my rear or knees. I ruined multiple snowsuits and snow-pants that way.
If it’s an ice storm they had better check the candles and firewood. They are very likely to lose power. I the Ice Storm of ’98 in Plattsburgh NY, we were without power for 27 days. Trees kept falling into power lines as fast as they could fix them. Made good use of the wood stove, oil lamps, camping stove, and a battery-powered TV/radio.
