A few(?) decades ago, a Larry Wright comic (Wright Angles(?)), had Motley the cat joining the children in giving Carlyle(?) Mother’s Day presents; Motley’s gift was a couple(?) of mice that jumped out, scaring Carlyle, and Motley wound up in the basement.
Yes, sincere love captures the spirit of Christmas more perfectly than any gift we can possibly buy for another person. The message of this short story is that love is the most important gift that two people can ever give to one another. (Until, after a fast 58 years death do you part. RIP-Patty.)
