I disagree. I only accept people I know into my FB circle. And I far prefer it when people include personal goings-on in their lives, as opposed to reposts.

Why is it that the users of “social media” tend to be some of the most “anti-social” people around? ;-D

Anti-social: enjoying your social media by yourself? Nah!

And of course, the word “media” in that still stands for lies, propaganda, and nonsense!

There are generally people on the other end, you know.

LOL! That is a good point.

I enjoy dancing. But aside from that, and getting together with a few real friends, I’m happier doing my “social” online.

Adding a word can totally change the meaning of another… Adding “National” to Socialism, for example…

I’m surprised Pig is reading an actual dictionary rather than looking up the definitions using his phone.

What should we call it then. Certainly not Civil Media.

Social media – is the poster (is that a word?) really who you think it is?

Large groups of people who all know each other and are in the same room together will often be absorbed in their phones, communicating with the person across the room or even seated next to them.

Let’s start calling it for what it is, “Anti-Social Media”. For every case were it helps, there are dozens more that tear us apart. This site is a prime example.

The phone function of the device of your choice seems to be an almost obsolete afterthought.

Yeah, staring at that electronic device out of addiction. Personally, my addiction is to Freecell.

Millennials!

Having recently faced to possibility of being forever silenced by larynx cancer, I suddenly appreciated the availability of social media for those who cannot speak, have mobility issues, or are otherwise isolated from direct social contact. It turned out I have a bit of speech left but my awareness was opened.

Some of them are not really there….bots!

I’ll be with someone and seems like we’re both enjoying each others’ company, then their phone will ring, or they’ll want to share some photos on their phone and they’ll scroll and scroll and scroll, or refer to something on their phone from our discussion and spend too long looking stuff up, and suddenly I feel alone. Disconnected. Ignored. Others never experience that with me as I don’t have a smart phone, rarely even carry my $10 Tracfone.

Social media’s looking pretty good six months later.

Yet in both cases you still have to deal with people’s stupidity. What a rip off.
