I am eternally grateful that our local library has introduced 1) automatic renewals for all media and 2) no late fees anymore.
If you don’t return something for long enough, they decide you lost it and charge for replacement, but at least I don’t have to worry too much about a few weeks late.
Green Eggs and Ham was banned in China because it supposedly contained themes of “early Marxism,” i.e., Soviet-style socialism (which was at odds with Chinese socialism). Allegedly, the breakfast was interpreted as a metaphor for Soviet socialism, with many initially rejecting it but eventually coming to enjoy it after “trying” it. So I suspect many conservative communities have probably removed it from library bookshelves by now too.[sarcasm] ;-P
The overdue book/Librarian with beheading axe from the closet gag is recycled from a Bloom Co. mid 80s [?] strip and has been redrawn. The Internet Threat was not in the earlier strip, of course.
