Snoopy stands at the baseball field and thinks, "Me?"<BR><BR> Lucy stands next to Shermy. Lucy says, "Snoopy?" Shermy says, "Really?"<BR><BR> Charlie Brown looks at a piece of paper. He smiles and says, "Snoopy has been chosen 'Rookie of the year'!"<BR><BR> Snoopy holds a trophy. Schroeder says, "Look at the trophy they gave him!" Five says, "And the bronze plaque!" Linus says, "Congratulations, Snoopy! You deserved it!"<BR><BR> Charlie Brown says, "Wow! One of my own players . . Rookie of the year! Isn't that something?"<BR><BR> Charlie Brown turns and says, "Okay, team! That proves we're not so bad after all! Let's get out there now and win this game . . . Let's show 'em how to play!"<BR><BR> Charlie Brown stands on the pitcher's mound. He pitches the ball and looks up in the air..<BR><BR> Snoopy holds the trophy. The ball lands on the ground behind him.<BR><BR> Charlie Brown frowns and says, "I know what award I'll win . . 'Stomachache of the year'!"<BR><BR>

My view is that Shermy last appeared in the strip on November 9 1975, although some people aren’t quite convinced that the character in question is genuinely him.

Shermy’s days in the strip were very short-lived. As early as late 1952, his appearances were becoming less common because of the success of newly introduced characters Lucy and Linus. Shermy makes Violet and Patty look good compared to him.

I remember a Mad magazine cartoon of Shermy coming back to visit, but all of the Peanuts characters had gone “Hollywood.”

This Shermy’s last appearance, and his final words are “Really”. At least he kinda got a ceremonies exit (unlike some other characters) by appearing in a Sunday Strip. Sad to see one of the first og characters gone.
