I find it interesting that Dad can’t handle Mom’s creativity when he does it all the time to Calvin.
When I was a kid, I assumed this strip was somehow related to the previous one, but I wasn’t sure how.
Did the monsters help Mom cook the spider pie? Were the monsters INGREDIENTS in the spider pie?
He likes it! Hey, Calvin! (Life cereal reference)
What’s for dessert? Maybe caterpillars and cream?
I love this strip (not that I did anything like this to my kids as they were growing up).
There was a similar strip where they tell him that it’s toxic waste, and he devours it, hoping to gain super powers
Hm. I’ll have to include hairy spiders in my recipe next time I make meat pies.
Dad did the same 34 years ago and mom complained.

So what the heck did she put in there that might be seen as hairy spider legs? Asking for a friend.
Sometimes moms are just too cool.
You could not believe this : in Sardegna (the second greater Italian Island) is a yummy meal a special cheese with little white worms .
Calvin’s parents are getting as creative as him
Calvin, every now and then Mom and Dad do show you they are related to you.
Well done Mom! Two paybacks with one sentence!
Maybe the recipe can be found on a web site
“‘Spider pie’ now made with REAL spiders…get some today!”
I’ll have yours as well Dad…
It worked. That’s the important thing!
Slugs in their own slime for desert, with or without mouse dropping sprinkles.
Looks like for once we’re going to have a quiet dinner.
Calvin’s mom got payback for Calvin’s dad explaining their eventual Christmas Tree from earlier this week.
A leg and an eye and a leg and an eye and….
It is a wise mom who knows her kid.
Oh-oh, she just gave him his next idea for lunch with Susie Derkins.
It seems Mom’s learned a thing or two — as she’s seen a thing or two.
Watching live crabs should appeal to him.
Once when I babysat my cousin’s kids I cooked frozen clam strips and popcorn shrimp for lunch and told them it was worms and grubs.
I am the COOL cousin now.
Mom knows how to use reverse psychology. Food only being “good for you” isn’t enough to get it eaten.
Now I’m forced to wonder what it REALLY is.
It can’t be as bad as the eggplant casserole I was force-fed as a child!
We had biscuits with a layer of raisins in them – they were “fly cemeteries”. A a kid I thought it was hilarious. Now, pretty gross!
When my mother served me something new and I asked her what it was, she said “Its poison.”
Sure beats last night’s Cockroach Surprise.
Too bad his parents didn’t do this kind of acceptance more often.
I can’t remember the date of the strip, but there is one in which dad pulls the same trick on Calvin and mom Is the one who doesn’t like it
Better check the pie for flies. ;)
Personally, I prefer her monkey heads.
Great… now we’re gonna see decals of Calvin peeing on a Fiat 124.
He’ll be bragging about this at school tomorrow, starting with Susie.
Both parents take turn being sarcastic.
This one reminds me of a classic “C&H” about monkey heads … (couldn’t find it here on GoComics.)

Don’t get accustomed to it, but mom for the win!
Every now and then, you realize that Mom must have been AMAZING when they met as college students. Like Gomez and Morticia Addams as soon as they’re off-camera.
Spider pie? I wonder what that would be taste like
