When my son was in Jr. High, his Grandmother gave him a 10 lb. Hershey bar for Halloween. I got a call from the principal a few days later that my son was selling bags of chocolate at school. He had gotten my food scale and some baggies, broke off pieces and weighing them. He them sold it to other students. He is an adult now and owns a restaurant.
The one good thing about Catholic grade school was that we always got Nov 1st off, for All Saints Day. That’s a Holy Day of Obligation, so after church we were obliged to eat our candy all day.
When I was Wilberforce’s age (which seems like 140 yrs ago!), we all attempted to make our candy last until Easter. Consequently, we made our best effort to make our Easter candy last until Halloween. I have to say, we did get close, quite often!
