I think it was PBS that did a report on diet and health years ago in which they showed a doctor interviewing a repeat customer cardiac patient. Asked about his daily breakfast he rattled off a high salt, high fat, high cholesterol menu of very large portions he ate every single day (far, far more than the total daily recommended levels in just that one meal). Then asked when he’d change his diet the patient responded when they prove it’s bad for him. As I recall he’d had his fourth major heart attack at that point. That problem tends to take care of itself pretty quickly after #4.
Lay off the potatoes, pasta, cereal, and bread (though sourdough, rye, & pumpernickel breads are okay) as well as use real butter instead of margarine, eat moderate amounts of fatty meats, veggies such as broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, or cabbage are okay, bacon is okay. Go easy on the junk food or avoid it the best you can. This diet actually works.

It’s terrible when you’re walking by a mirror and your stomach beats you there two steps before you.

Shows what you know. If I stand just right, my mirror is a fawning courtesan.
