There is definitely little chance of improving labor conditions in the US let alone the world under a Republican dominated government. Labor costs are always the first expenses to be sacrificed for the “good” of the economy. Reduce full time jobs to part time which will save the expense of healthcare and other benefits like retirement. A plethora of temporary part time jobs also artificially inflate the image of full employment by the people. It overlooks the people working multiple part time jobs just to survive. Republican governments make it harder by discouraging increases in minimum wages.
Maybe this is where trade agreements could be used more effectively. If management wants the market strongly enough, changes might be made to meet the requirements of the desired market. The problem with the chocolate bit is that the supposed certifying agencies weren’t honest in their certifications, and we don’t demand that they be honest.
I don’t see why everybody’s so upset about a corporate policy that is all about returning great profit to the stockholders, AND the board. Surely that’s all that matters.

Unless it’s fair trade, which is available if you look for it. But it’s a good thing to be mindful of.

Like many products we relish, well, maybe not relish, unless tropical fruits included?

The public will need to be shocked by video and have a shock jock tell the story. Then maybe some will give up the stuff.
Just like the undocumented work force here in the U.S.A. you need to stop it at the top.

Google “child labor chocolate” and see how Hersey, Nestle, Mars, et al operate. Capitalism doesn’t serve everyone well.

But of course, indentured servitude, sweatshops, and so on are FINE when they are used to make cheap clothes for Ivanka and her fatso, pervert daddy…

I remember that they closed Hershey Chocolate Factory in Hershey, PA. I looked it up on DuckDuckGo, sadly found it in Abandoned America.
