I went to a conference where one of the sessions dealt with providing good customer service. The guy was ex-military and told the story of how he and his wife visited another couple and decided to float down the Mississippi by raft ala Tom Sawyer. Along the way they came across a tree with an old-fashioned tire and decided to take a swim. His buddy had swam a short distance and challenged him to swing out and dive over him. He was assured that it was deep enough because he wasn’t even close to hitting bottom. So he dived and cleared his friend but neither realized that right past the friend there was a chunk of land that rose up. So when he dived, he smashed face first into the ledge, smashing every bone in his face. He was rushed to the hospital where he flatlined twice. It’s actually a pretty funny story but it does show that you can never be sure about hidden dangers.
