Is that a wild boar? It looks like a hippopotamus, it’s very big.

Several years ago two friends of mine went boar hunting with flintlock muskets. They were spread out and the older one saw a sow come out of a shrub line, followed by piglets. He held his fire knowing the boar would be at the end of the line.

He fired, the boar rocked with the impact , turned and chrged him. His brother tells the story that "In the best tradition of the British army, Dick reach back, fixed bayonet and prepared to receive boar. The animal dropped dead just before it reached the tip.

The bullet had passed through both lungs and the heart, the boar had attacked on put cussedness.

Okay, that is a common hazard among hunters. Suddenly and unexpectedly becoming an item on a real predators buffet.

Boars are bad news in the wild. A former insurance agent related how he had been boar hunting in a Jeep with buddies in California when a boar charged the Jeep. Mike shot him in the forehead with his .45 pistol. The boar staggered and came back at them until he was felled by a second shot. When the boar was butchered they saw why the first shot had bounced off – the skull was 2 inches thick at the forehead!

Maybe the musket will scare him away. If not, you should be able to keep the king between yourself and the boar — under the “I don’t have to outrun the boar, just you” theory of survival.

If they have guns why do all the battle scenes still use bows and arrows and swords.
