I can’t recall ever having heard of the Billiken craze before yesterday’s comic. A Google search revealed a story I find fascinating, with links to St. Louis, Nome, Osaka, and the movie “Waterloo Bridge.” Billiken’s creation story is analogous to Superman’s, in that the vast majority of money generated by his sudden popularity did not go to the woman who “dreamed him up.”
