    In the Army, my father pointed out the fact that KP listed duties did not include peeling potatoes. The cook asked, “What does it include?”

    Daddy cited the duties. When he got to cleaning grease traps, the cook stopped him, “Grease traps? That sounds like a fine job to do. Do that instead of the potatoes.”

    He said it was nasty, nauseating work. After he finished, though, it wasn’t anywhere near as bad the next few times and the food tasted better. (It had been there since World War 2.

    Still…peeling potatoes had more appeal after that.

    Maybe if the one standing behind you did the dishes there wouldn’t be any heavy, baked-on grease.
