Six times on the primer sounds like a bit many. Often I need only four. And don’t forget a new spark plug each year. Those side-pull mowers were/are a royal pain. Technology has improved, and pull-up mowers are much easier to start.
Don’t forget to check the oil.
Try a shot of ether. (No, NO! in the carburetor!)
