A parent told me they told their child’s teacher they wished teachers could spank their child at school. The teacher replied that many parents tell them that.
Spanking? No. We got the slugs, our quaint Toronto term for the strap. Pity the nun who didn’t hold the wrist of the offender, they got one in the leg for their forgetfulness!!
In my school, the “board of education” was often applied to the “seat of learning”. Downside, the teacher’s favorites were always exempt and some of us were treated as whipping boys.
I’m all for a parent not allowing corporal to the child. However, they should be prepared to come on down and administer the proper punishment. One of my step-sisters attitude when one of her children got out of line was: “Your soul may belong to God but your backside belongs to me.” Amazing her children weren’t a discipline problem at school.

Then they prohibited that and everything went downhill.

Don’t even get me started on the long list of what teachers can’t do vs the extremely short list of can do for punishment

Same here grandma and in Catholic school there was a lot of whacking of the ruler or something else on the hands of the students.
