Such a sad story. We lost out big boy George Chubwell last month. Chai Miao-yin seems to be channeling his spirit – she’s developed most of his character traits, including wrapping her paws around my arms as I type.
They are so focused on being who they are, they will often act as if nothing is wrong even when they have a painful injury.
Many years ago my housemate had a cat that was very old, that he’d raised from a kitten. On the night it died, he was out with his girlfriend.
I saw the cat, literally breathing her last breaths, drag herself from her cat bed to her litter box. Once done, she scraped litter to cover her leavings. Then she stepped out, settled herself on the floor next to the box, and closed her eyes.
Sigh. I have buried too many cats. You don’t lead them; you walk along with them. My current boss, Robin, runs me around the house but when I am sick she never leaves.
sadly – i am also a member of this club … twice over – and i never thought i would see that feeling so brilliantly shared by your artwork and storytelling – thank you
How very sad! I had a cat that passed away a couple of years ago, she dragged herself to my chair in the dining room, and as I picked her up, she died. The second cat I held when passing… very traumatic. I cried for days.
One of our cats died many years ago. We were with him, he was gasping for breath. It was too late to go to the Vet. He died quickly poor thing mouth and eyes wide open.
That was so sweet of Noden to take you in after Güsto couldn’t look after you anymore. You could see him say, “Don’t worry… You can be my human too, okay?”
I have a tabby named Bengali, and she loves looking after me.

The cat coming home to die is just so “cat”.

She was gone, but a cat to the end.
