This one brings back too many bad memories for me when I was often bullied in school. Not the same way as Calvin, but in other ways I’d rather not get into.
When I was a kid, I was bullied for a short while. I picked the biggest, meanest, ugliest of the bullies and took him on. I lost the fight by a mile. However, they stopped picking on me.
I would like to chalk that one up to. “Well, maybe they had respect for me after that.” However, I think it was that I was too much trouble to pick on and they moved onto lower-hanging fruit.
In Flagstaff that is not bullying. The two people are the same race, sex, and the “victim” is not of an identifiably different religion. It is not even bullying if Moe beats and robs Calvin every day. That definition was adopted about three years ago; FUSD is proud of how much bullying dropped after adoption of the new definition.
I knew a kid in high school who gave his bully a $20 bill one day. It was counterfeit. The bully was arrested and held in jail for the weekend. The victim had access to a very good copier and actually planned for the situation. The police eventually got to him and he denied everything and was not investigated further. The bully was charged and given some time in juvenile hall and lots of probation afterwards. His family had several member who had more than a passing acquaintance with the criminal justice system. I did not hear about this until the 15th high school reunion. By then the bully had moved out of state and never returned to darken anyone’s doors again.
I’ve had a philosophy about bullies. #1: be as compliant as possible. #2: loose all my teeth. Or #3: kill the motherf!!!!!. It’s nice to read about successful retaliation, but that seldom happens. Right does not make might.
During 1941-1943 my first years in grade school in Chatham Township NJ, I was a very slight youngster who was always blamed for “trouble” either as the cause, directing, or watching an “incident”.

I wonder if Calvin can write that off as a charitable contribution?

at least it wasn’t for some highly worded compliment Calvin gave Moe about which the latter was confused (as it WAS worth twenty-five cents)

Let me guess: Moe still beat up Calvin during recess.

I know this is a “comic” but in these times making light of a school bully is not good.

I wonder if Moe will reform as he grows up or just come to a bad end?

I always try to imagine how Moe sounds with those lowercase letters in his speech.

In elementary school, I made friends with the brutish class bully. Unfortunately, he liked to beat up all my other friends. True story.

Calvin, a few of your words from rich vocabulary would toss this bully into oblivion. Try that.
