I can remember going with my parents to the appliance store and buying our first television in the mid-1950s. Before we had a TV, we listened to a Sears Silvertone radio. I also remember that the store gave us a free TV Guide with the purchase. The cover had a cartoon of all the new Fall TV shows for that year. The Silvertone radio had tubes which regularly wore out. I remember going to the hardware store with my father to insert the suspect tubes in a tube tester. to see if they needed replacement yet, or not. I still have that radio in my basement. Someday I might get around to getting it to operate again.
