Exercise is good for you. So is the discipline learned from practicing. You could get that through a marching band, or a dance class, or learning individual sports for enjoyment (as opposed to competitive team sports.)

Do band or orchestra. No one “sits on the bench” — everyone’s part is important. It teaches teamwork just as well as participating in sports.
