By Twig’s age, I was expected to wash all my own laundry and my mother’s most weeks. Mom was working and going to school, so it’s not as mean as it may have sounded. We lived with her parents (and other aunts & uncles over the years), so laundry was really the only chore I was expected to take over.

My mom taught me to iron when I was 11. I didn’t do laundry till I was 16.
