Absolutely beautiful!
Love all the color after so much greyscale. And young Hickory and Olwin are so cute!
Could this brother, Walter, be the Nazi that is hot on their trail?
Wow! Mind completely blown by the art and the backstory.
1) Great explanation of how the familiar bond is created.
2) I only knew “hootenanny” as the name of the 60’s TV show. More info here, complete with Pete Seeger reference which is never a bad thing:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hootenanny
3) I presume I’m not the first to note that that’s a full moon, not a new moon (or it wouldn’t be visible, eh?)
Hmm, I don’t recognize Hickory at all. He’s very unfamiliar.
It is wonderful to see how they still love each other so much! <3 <3
Hickory! Did you wag your tail feathers?
(last panel)
Oh I cannot love this installment more!! beautiful.
Is this one of the “added” parts of the story? Yay!!!! It’s beautiful.
Love that her g’granny was named Yaga.
Great-great grandma Yaga had some interesting features—same fangs as Olwen, but her hands and back—wow.
Not sweet? One of the sweetest strips ever!
Okay, I give up. What is Grandma Yaga’s back?
OMG Hickory is the most adorable owlet ever.
Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be. (Robert Browning)
Oh, my Cat! I love the story!
I want to see more of baby Hickory!
In the Alex Verus series-they have magical blink foxes wonder if Foxy is one of them. There are talking foxes in the Rivers of London series…we may have a magical fox here or a Kitsune as suggested.
My mom used “hootenanny” as a synonym for “whatchamacallit.” When I was a teenager it also became a folk music jam.
Fox looks already familiar ;). Who is the girl with him? (I looked up the “cast” but still don’t know… I get lost in that family…. )
a familiar friend, as it were
Awww, Hickory! Such a good owl friend.
this is an incredible bok and i am happy people recognize it.
I like the slow introduction of color into the comic. Does this mean it will be full color eventually, I wonder?
Not trying to nitpick, but I am wondering about the usage of “new moon” when that’s clearly a full moon. =D; Is that intentional?
